Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Nitin Tyagi was on Monday questioned by the police in connection with an alleged assault on Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash by two legislators of the party.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Harendra Singh told IANS that Tyagi was questioned from 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm at Civil Lines Police Station in north Delhi.
The Chief Secretary has alleged that he was assaulted by two AAP MLAs in the presence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at the CM’s residence on February 19 night.
AAP MLAs Amanatullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal were later arrested in this connection and sent to judicial custody.
Last week, the police had also questioned AAP MLA Rajesh Rishi over the incident.
Earlier in the day, a Delhi Assembly committee told the Delhi High Court that it would not take any coercive action against Anshu Prakash.
The court was hearing a plea by the Chief Secretary against a breach of privilege notice sent to him by an assembly committee for not appearing before it.
The Delhi Assembly’s counsel said no coercive action would be taken against Prakash if he appeared before the committee.
Justice Rajiv Shakdher posted the matter for hearing on April 11.
On February 21, Prakash was called by the Question and Reference Committee of the Delhi Assembly, but he did not turn up and the committee later sent him the notice.
Last week, Prakash challenged the committee’s action in the HC. Hitting back, the committee alleged that Prakash had lied under oath in the HC.
On Monday, Prakash’s counsel told the court that of the 11 people who were present when the Chief Secretary was allegedly attacked, two had been arrested and the others were yet to be identified, and that they could be part of the assembly committee.
The counsel cited this as a reason for Prakash not appearing before the committee.
Reacting to AAP leader Amanatullah Khan being granted bail by a Delhi court on Thursday in a money laundering case, Rai said, "One thing is clear with Amanatullah Khan's bail: the truth may be suppressed temporarily, but it cannot be defeated."
According to the FIR, the incident happened when MCD officials, led by Sunil Kumar Ranga from the Narela zone, were inspecting a shop where 15 slaughtered goats were found.
AAP National Convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on the second consecutive day , took to city streets and inspected broken roads on Friday, and said that all his party MLAs and ministers will be soon out on ground to conduct an assessment regarding the issue
